The most common method of improving the accessibility of a motorhome roof or that of your caravan is to stick aluminium chequer plate to it. It should be around four millimetres thick in order to distribute the weight of the person well.
Stainless steel is considerably heavier, reduces the possible payload and unnecessarily raises the centre of gravity of the mobile home. The suitably sawn and deburred plate is glued to the roof using Sikaflex. The adhesive should be applied over the entire surface with a fine notched trowel and allowed to flash off for at least 24 hours after bonding.
ATTENTION: Bonding requires certain basic knowledge and careful preparation of the surfaces to be joined. To be on the safe side, you should consult your dealer or ask for our technical assistance before carrying out such work.
Aluminium chequer plates - what makes them so special?
Aluminium is characterised not only by its low weight, but also by its high corrosion resistance. Neither aggressive substances nor the effects of the weather can do much damage to the metal. This means that it can be used not only indoors but also outdoors.
The chequer plate owes its name to its surface structure. The corrugations are not a subsequent embossing, but a pattern created during production with the help of forming rollers.
The requirements for this type of sheet have been set out in writing in EU standard EN 1386. This includes the pattern types "duet", "quintet", "almond", "diamond" and "barleycorn". In material thickness 2.5 x 4.0 mm, we offer you high-quality aluminium sheets in a quintet design. This means that there are five tapered ribs next to each other, the special arrangement of which results in the typical chequered pattern.
